ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Butler and Stoddard County contingent at the 2017 Missouri Amateur Golf Championship won't be sticking around for the rest of the week.

Two local golfers failed to make the cut following Wednesday's second round of the championship at St. Joseph Country Club.

Dexter's Brian Whitson shot a 5-over 76 on Day 2 and finished as the low local golfer in a tie for 63rd place at 11-over 153 with eight other players.

Whitson shot one stroke better than his first round after making birdie to start the day. He birdied holes No. 9 and 15 and made par on half of his holes. Whitson carded four bogeys, including three on par-3s, and made two triple bogeys to end his tournament.

Poplar Bluff's Nathan Woolard saw a major turnaround after he ended the first round 18 shots off the lead, but it wasn't enough.

Woolard shot a 4-over 75 to finish at 20-over 162, tied for 112th place. Woolard bogeyed hole No. 2 but recovered with five straight pars. Afer consecutive double bogeys to end the front nine, Woolard made six more pars and birdied No. 15 and 18 to end the tournament.
