Downtown Poplar Bluff's Farmers Market kicked-off last weekend with a new initiative aimed at driving interest and participation within the community.

It's called Flea Market Days and according to Downtown Poplar Bluff Director Jerrica Fox, all types of participants are welcome.

"Flea Market Days lets people shop for fresh produce, like usual at the Farmers Market, but also adds antiques, yard sale and food items once a month," she said.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. - noon the first Saturday of each month, continuing through October. Fox said anyone is welcome to participate by purchasing a parking lot sized space for $5.

"This is a way to encourage more people to come downtown," said Fox, who mentioned produce goods have been a little slim due to recent inclement weather.

"Produce selection hasn't been great so far, but July should be better and it will continue to improve as the seasons progress through October," Fox said.

Vendors wishing to sell food and other edible goods must meet all Butler County Health Department requirements, she said.

According to Fox, vendors should strive to be set up and ready to open approximately five minutes prior to the event.

Vendors can pay for their space either the day of the event or by contacting Fox at City Hall located at 501 Vine Street or by calling 573-712-2171.
