VAN BUREN, Mo. -- Velma Ann Cranor, 85 of Edna, Kan., departed this life Sunday, June 4, 2017 in Springfield, Mo. She was born Feb. 2, 1932 in Elm City, Kan., daughter of the late Irvin and Opal (Hays) Spencer.
Velma met the love of her life Robert Wayne Cranor at the age of 15. She and Robert married July 2, 1948 in Oswego, Kan. at the Court House.
Velma and Robert worked on a cattle ranch together in Kansas along with her parents. On July 16, 1949, they had their first child Larry, followed by a baby girl Sandra, April 13, 1952, with their last baby girl, Carolyn arrived July 3, 1954. After the children were born, Robert and Velma moved to Coffeyville, Kan. Velma was a homemaker and a loving mother. The family of five later moved to Tulsa, Okla., where they lived for 20 years. Velma enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, singing hymns on car rides and reading her Bible. Her faith in the Lord was strong, and she would witness to anyone who would listen. She raised her family to believe and to have faith in the Lord.
She is survived by two of her children: Larry Cranor and wife Deborah of Springfield, Mo; and Carolyn Jennings and husband Tim of Rogersville, Mo; son-in-law, Kurt Zimmer, the husband of the late Sandra Zimmer of Van Buren; 10 grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her sisters: Pearl Spencer and Ruby Burks; her daughter, Sandra Zimmer; and her great-granddaughter, Laquin Vaughn-Zimmer.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Edna, Kan.
