ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Jack D. Shearon, 78, of rural Hillsboro, died Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born Nov. 24, 1938, in Poplar Bluff to Clyde Jack and Bondalee "Bonnie" Eastridge Shearon, and moved to St. Louis with his mother in his early teens. A member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 27, he retired after years of working on construction projects along the Mississippi River that included the New Madrid power plant in Marston.

On Aug. 9, 1960, he married Margaret Fernandez in St. Louis. He was of the Christian faith and loved creating and building things, including their home which he built for his wife. He enjoyed sports, the St. Louis Cardinals, racing and football.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Anthony "Tony" Shearon of St. Peters and Tim Shearon of St. Louis; four half-siblings, Virginia Yandell of Fenton, Ken Shearon of Patterson, Robert Shearon of Poplar Bluff and Dolores Shearon of Omaha, Neb.; his stepmother, Adeline Shearon of Poplar Bluff; and four grandsons.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the funeral at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, at McLaughlin Funeral Home, 2301 Lafayette Ave., St. Louis, with Rick Lay officiating. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of St. Louis.
