With two new businesses expected to open at Eight Points retail area in little more than a month, additional building permits have been filed for a Five Below discount store and PetSmart.
The final inspection process has started for Academy Sports + Outdoors and will start soon for Ross clothing store, according to the city planning department. Both should open by early July under the current schedule.
A nearly 18,000-square-foot PetSmart is now planned for space on the east side of the 63,000-square-foot Academy building. The PetSmart will be constructed an estimated cost of $2.3 million.
Drawings also show a Five Below in the same building as a planned Dollar Store. The building would be located at an angle, between PetSmart and Palm Street. At just under 17,000-square-foot in total, it is expected to cost $1.7 million. The space will be divided evenly between the two businesses.
Ross clothing store will occupy the largest of three new retailers on the same side of Palm Street as Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market.
No new permits have been filed for the two smaller units which sit between Ross and Wal-Mart, or a section of retail units at the foot of the Menards parking lot.
Crews broke ground on the $2.5 million Academy in December.
It was among the first of five new businesses to begin construction. When complete, these shops will have a combined retail space of approximately 120,000 square feet at a construction cost of about $8.7 million.
