NEELYVILLE, Mo. - A former Neelyville R-IV high school teacher has agreed to surrender her Missouri teaching license after an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student who attended Neelyville High School during the 2013-14 school year.

In a settlement agreement with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Leslie M. Ackman, of Dexter, Mo., agreed to surrender her certificates of license to teach as a result of the allegations.

Neelyville Superintendent Brad Hagood said Ackman voluntarily left the district in May 2015 before her actions came to light.

"Mrs. Ackman was a high school teacher with the Neelyville R-IV School District from August 2011 until May 2015 when she voluntarily left the district," Hagood said. "The district did not learn of the allegations against Mrs. Ackman until after her employment had ended."

Hagood said upon learning of the allegations, the district immediately informed appropriate law enforcement officials and investigated to the fullest extent possible.

"I cannot make further comment at this time because the matter, which is being publicly reported, involves confidential student and/or personnel information," Hagood said.

No criminal charges against Ackman were filed. However, according to the Missouri State Board of Education, Ackman failed to support its department goal No. 3, which says that "Missouri will prepare, develop, and support effective educators."
