Folks searching for food, philanthropy and fun should search no more because the 11th Annual Taste of the Town is just around the corner.

The event will kick off at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Black River Coliseum with all proceeds from the fundraiser benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Poplar Bluff.

Boys and Girls Club Director Chris Rushin said tomorrow's event sets a new vendor record with 26 participating eateries.

"We're proud to offer some of the best food and drink throughout Southeast Missouri," Rushin said. "This year, we're excited to welcome first-time participants Dexter Queen and the Little Black River Cafe."

Rushin said there also will be many familiar local faces, such as Francisco Esquivel with Las Margaritas, Mayas and Taco Taco. Karen Campbell of Tasteful Creations and Rev. Greg Kirk with the United Gospel Rescue Mission will also be in attendance.

Dr. Lance Yeoman's Dermatology Office, along with Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and Luecke Distributing, will be sponsoring this year's festivities.

"You can go to Mike and Zack's and sample as much award-winning bar-b-que as you want, or head over to Triple B's and try a cheeseburger, which is what they're known for. Luecke Distributing will also be there in full force," Rushin said.

The event will feature live entertainment from Brothers Walker, a limbo contest, and The Box Game where guests can buy either a $25 or $50 box containing a prize of equal or greater value.

According to Rushin, the evening's top prizes include a recliner from a future new business that has yet to be announced and a necklace from Whitworth's Gift Chest Jewelers valued at $1,300.

Tickets are available in advance for $40 each or at the door for $45. Reserved tables of eight are available until 3 p.m. Thursday for $500 each.

Rushin said event attire is casual and dress clothes to blue jeans are welcome.

To purchase tickets visit bgcpb.org, the Black River Coliseum box office, or the Boys and Girls Club administrative office at Poplar Bluff Middle School located at 1300 Victory Lane. For more information, call 573-776-1690.
