Following historic flooding across the region, efforts have been organized to help flood victims.
Donation information for the counties of Butler, Carter and Ripley are, as follows:
Butler County
Butler County residents can take donations to the former emergency room entrance of 621 W. Pine Street in Poplar Bluff, Mo., previously home to Doctor's Hospital and across from Kneibert Clinic from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The center is being operated by AmeriCorps and will also benefit flood victims in Carter and Ripley counties. Per AmeriCorps volunteers Thursday, the center should remain open until the need is no longer there.
Carter County
Carter County residents can drop donations at the Assembly of God Church in Van Buren, Mo. Current needs include cleaning supplies, hygiene products, and bottled water. For more information or to volunteer, contact Curt Majors at 573-323-4335.
Carter County Food Pantry, the only food pantry that serves Carter County, was underwater and is unable to store and distribute food.
To aid in the response efforts, Southeast Missouri (SEMO) Food Bank will conduct the first disaster relief mobile pantry at Van Buren Youth and Community Center at 1 p.m. Monday.
Ripley County
Ripley County residents can donate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ripley County Fairgrounds in Doniphan, Mo. The operation is being supported by Ripley Relief, a disaster recovery team established following last week's flood. For more information, contact Brittany Barton at 573-351-8228.
