ELLINGTON, Mo. -- Some residents in Ellington were being asked to voluntarily evacuate early Saturday as floodwaters rose along Logan Creek.
"We are doing voluntary evacuations right now," Ellington Volunteer Fire Department assistant chief Randall Martin said at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. "Logan Creek, I am looking at it and it has come up about two feet in the past 15 minutes."
Martin said the area known as "New Town" was where emergency officials were most focused on getting residents to safety. Businesses and residences along Main Street were also battling floodwaters rising to their doorstops and other flooding issues as of Saturday morning.
"If you are close to the creek or anything like that - our predictions are it's not going to get much better tonight - if you can get out, get our now," Martin said.
Missouri Task Force 1, a division of the Boone County Fire Protection District specializing in swift-water rescue was stationed in West Plains, Mo, Friday in anticipation of the flooding and was en route to Ellington at the time of this writing.
