Eldon P. Edwards, 89, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Monday, April 24, 2017 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Mr. Edwards was born Dec. 07, 1927 in Fisk, Mo.,son of the late Walter and Grace Edwards. He had served in the Navy during WW II. Mr. Edwards retired from General Motors in 1983 after 30 years of service. After retiring he was a driver for Blackwell Baldwin and served as a community volunteer at SMTS, The Crisis Line and other community organizations.
While living in St. Louis, he was a member of Southside General Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He also enjoyed music and sang in a quartet. Since moving back to Poplar Bluff he has been a member of Fellowship General Baptist Church for 30 years.
On Oct. 4, 1948 he married Bonnie Hendricks. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters-in-law: Suzanne Edwards of Claremont, Calif., and Denise Edwards of Edmond, Okla.; two grandchildren: Layne Edwards and Jessica Lafarge; five great-grandchildren: one brother: Virgil Edwards and wife Marilyn of Desloge, Mo. and one sister: Juanita Wilburn of Columbia, Mo.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Larry Edwards and Steven Edwards: one granddaughter: Tara Edwards; and four brothers: D.B., Cleo, Burley and Earl.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday April 29, 2017 at Fellowship General Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church with Rev. Byron Beck and Rev. Ernie Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the Shain Memorial Cemetery at Fisk. White Sanders Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
