VAN BUREN -- Ethan Ponder blasted a three-run home run and Todd Wilcoxen chipped in a double, as the Van Buren baseball team beat Greenville 9-6 on Monday.

Ponder and Wilcoxen each finished with three RBIs to lead the Bulldogs (11-2), who have won 10 of their last 11.

Van Buren took the lead for good when Wilcoxen and Steve Simmons hit back-to-back RBI singles in the second. Justin Chilton and Connor Jackson added an RBI apiece as the Bulldogs scored a run in all but the final two innings.

Wilcoxen struck out five in three innings to get the win. He gave up three unearned runs on three hits with no walks. Spencer Burnham pitched three innings of relief with six strikeouts while Evan Nicholson closed things out with a scoreless frame.

Trey McDaniel drove in two runs to lead Greenville (3-4), and Jason Bratton added an RBI.

Neelyville 12, Puxico 1

Drayden French slugged a two-run home run, while Wyatt Moon knocked in three RBIs and tossed a one-hitter as the Tigers trounced the Indians on the road.

Chaney Trout and Noah Burton both doubled and scored while Peyton Hobbs went 3 for 3 with an RBI. The senior also scored three runs and walked once for Neelyville (8-11), which has won seven of eight.

Moon and Matt Dollins combined on the one-hitter as Moon started and gave up an RBI single to Nick Wirz in the second. He finished with eight strikeouts while Dollins punched out four in two scoreless innings.

Dexter 22, Doniphan 5

Dexter scored 11 in the top of the seventh to eventually put away Doniphan.

Cordell Holt scored four times despite not getting a hit. Hunter Parrott was 3 for 5 with three runs. Jason Jarrell, also hitless, scored three times as Dexter got run production from 12 different Bearcats

Doniphan had four hits in the loss. Montana Buffington scored twice.

SOFTBALL

Clearwater 11, Greenville 5

Halle Gooch knocked in four runs with three hits and tossed a complete-game to lead the Lady Tigers past their district and conference rivals at home.

Tabby Carroll added two hits and two RBIS while Brittany Adams had a and RBI and a pair of singles. Jordan Fuchs, Mag E Hand, Rachel Rowold and Amy Holmes all had a hit apiece as Clearwater (11-5) bested their Wayne County foes for the second time this season to all but lock up the top seed in the upcoming MSHSAA Class 1 District 5 tournament.

Greenville (6-7) managed 10 hits and seven walks off Gooch, who finished with five strikeouts to get the win.

Neelyville 13, Puxico 8

The visiting Lady Tigers scored eight runs in the first two innings and cruised to a win over the Lady Indians.

Hana-Kate Cassinger was 3 for 4 with and RBI while Lexi Nippe added a trio of hits, walked once and scored four times. Mackenzie Hobbs singled and drove in two runs while six other players added hits for Neelyville (6-7).

Natalie Flanigan struck out 11 and walked two to get the complete-game winner.

TENNIS

Dexter 6, Cape Central 4

The Bearcats earned a road win Monday.

Zach Potts won the top-seeded match 8-3 while Will Brehmer and Logan Wyman also won by that score in their singles matches. Eric Hahn and Nate Gargas were 8-2 winners. Potts and Hahn won their doubles match 8-4 as did Matthew Chesser and Wyman for Dexter (2-4).
