Louis D. Smith, Jr., 70, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 at St. Anthony's Hospital (Kindred Center) in St. Louis.
Louis, the son of the late Louis D. Sr. and Georgia West Smith, was born Oct. 18, 1946 in Illinois. He was a member of First Baptist Church and had retired in 2000 after 25 years of teaching art for the Poplar Bluff R-1 Schools. Louis enjoyed fishing, knapping, gardening, sculpting, coaching baseball and following the St. Louis Cardinals.
On Feb. 25, 1978, he married Carolyn Warren in Dexter. She survives.
Other survivors include three children: Amy Smith of Poplar Bluff, Louis D. (Karla) Smith III of Seattle, Wash., and Chris (Chelsea) Smith of Poplar Bluff; two grandchildren: Spencer and Aubrey Smith and a new little one on the way, Sadie Lou; and a brother, Charles (Jan) Smith of Springfield, Mo.
A brother, Richard Smith, also preceded Louis in death.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel, in Poplar Bluff, with the funeral service following at 11:30 a.m. The Smith family members will officiate. Interment will be at Dexter Cemetery in Dexter.
