LAWRENCE, Kan. -- In just his second year of throwing the javelin, Logan Bell has picked on the event like he's known it for years.

The Poplar Bluff junior broke his own school record again Saturday with a throw of 184-feet, 7-inches at the 90th annual Kansas University Relays.

Bell's effort was good enough for fourth place by more than 4 feet over Lawrence's Harrison King, and was 6-feet, 2-inches better than his previous throw, which won him first place last Friday in the Capital City Relays.

Bell took home all-state honors last year with a throw of 167-08, good for third place in Class 4.

He was the lone Poplar Bluff track and field athlete to compete in the three-day event and followed up his first throw of 171-10 with the record breaker. He had three more throws of 170-2 or lower.

Wichita-Bishop Carroll's Anthony Gallardo won the event with a throw of 184-7 on his final attempt. Davon Spexarth of Andale was second with a throw of 183-9 and Lawrence's Hunter Krom took third, beating Bell by 2-feet, 5 inches.

The Mules track and field team is back in action at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Notre Dame before hosting its own invitational at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
