Improve paper
delivery service
Hello. I have enjoyed the DAR for over 20 years. I even had it sent to me when I lived very far from Poplar Bluff. I hope you can see that the person who delivers the paper can annoy someone so much they say, "Okay, I quit." I am disabled and it makes me angry that I have to go over to my neighbor's driveway to get the paper. I appreciate the DAR, and I thank you. Goodbye.
Shame on
pet owners
What is wrong with all you dog owners? You leave them in a hot car while you leisurely shop all around town. What makes you think they enjoy being in a hot, suffocating car? Just this week in the paper, Police say they will not tolerate people leaving their animals in a hot car and you will be fined for it. When I see this happening this summer, you can bet I will report you to the police. You are killing your dogs. Thank you.
Police are
true blessing
Dear Speakout, at 2 a.m. Memorial Day, Poplar Bluff Police Department called me to let me know the church downtown I belong to had inadvertently been left unlocked and the alarm off by the last person to leave on Sunday. I got to the church about 10 minutes later and the police officer told me they had been checking doors and they found ours unlocked and that three or four other churches had been broken into, ransacked and a lot of the equipment stolen. They had been through the building and had found nothing amiss inside. I set the alarm, locked the doors and thanked them very much. I just want to say publically, Thank you very much. You guys and your chief are a true blessing to the great city of Poplar Bluff.
Unhappy with
PA's decision
Okay. Why is he not guilty? Because he's a prominent businessman of Poplar Bluff? Because he's got friends in the prosecuting attorney's office? And how can you tell if her heart was not beating when he ran over her? If they both were drinking, they both left the scene of an accident, they both ran over her, DNA was found underneath his truck and you're gonna tell me he's not guilty. It pays to have the prosecuting attorney in your pocket, doesn't it? I doubt very much that you'll print this for the simple fact then everyone will know what a liar he is. Thank you.
Just want an
honest option
I guess we'll always we wonder if this was an honest assessment of the surroundings of the accident where the young woman was killed. It was noted and reported in your newspaper that Ressel's truck had extremely bright, white headlights. Possibly illegal headlights, because there are regulations. Depending on vehicle positioning and where he was at in regards to the Volkswagen's position, his lights could have momentarily dazzled Mr. Sparks. And, I'm not saying him trying to get rid of evidence of his vehicle was right. Of course it wasn't. But, if the equipment on Ressel's pickup truck contributed to the accident then part of the blame belongs to him. Of course, this is Butler County and things go...it's really kind of sad but have you noticed how stuff kind of goes the way prominent people want it do go? Thank you.
