In a nail-biting finish, the Dexter Bearcats emerged victorious against Notre Dame (Cape Girardeau) in the Class 4 District 1 Tournament on Friday at Fredericktown, securing a narrow two-point win with a final score of 37-35.
This victory marks a significant achievement for Dexter, who entered the tournament as the second seed, just behind the top-seeded Notre Dame.
The matchup between Dexter and Notre Dame was a clash of evenly matched teams. Both teams had similar records, with Dexter holding a 14-13 record for the season and Notre Dame at 14-14. Their home records were also closely matched, with Dexter at 7-4 and Notre Dame at 7-3. Dexter's journey to this victory has been marked by a series of challenging games. Prior to this win, the Bearcats faced a tough defeat against Fredericktown in the district semifinals, ending their season with a 43-31 loss. The Class 4 sectional will be played March 10 at Dexter against Potosi.
