LABADIE, Mo. — The Poplar Bluff Mules girls golf team added one more highlight to its inaugural season Monday when two girls on the team qualified for next week's Class 3 state tournament.
Olivia Thetford and Rhyan Waddell both will be headed to state after they turned in strong performances Monday at the Class 3 District 1 Tournament at Wolf Hollow Golf Club. Thetford shot a 91 to tie for 14th, while Waddell was one stroke back and finished 17th.
“The girls played well (Monday),” Poplar Bluff coach Tyler Davis said. “Olivia and Rhyan did have some hole struggles, but they were able to keep their emotions in check in order to close out the day and make it to state.”
Thetford and Waddell will play next Monday and Tuesday at the Class 3 state tournament in Columbia at the par-71 Columbia Country Club.
As a team, Poplar Bluff finished 11th Monday with a score of 477.
