The annual Rib City Shootout kicks off this weekend and continues through late July for different sports.
Boys basketball goes first, with games being played across 10 different courts in Dexter and more than 17 across four cities in three different states. More than 500 teams competed in last year's Rib City Shootout, which hosted boys and girls basketball and volleyball competitions.
Boys basketball teams from Dexter, Puxico, Van Buren, Campbell, Naylor, Richland, Kennett, Doniphan, Bloomfield, South Pemiscot and Greenville have signed up, as have schools from six states will compete with games starting at 9 a.m. Friday in Dexter.
The teams that reach the main varsity bracket on June 16 will receive a free set of home and away Nike uniforms.
The tournament continues each weekend through July 21. Each team will play at least six games and as many as eight games.
Everyone will start in a pool and play five games, then will enter the single elimination tournament.
Contrary to normal high school rules, teams will play a pair of 15-minute halves with a running clock, which will stop according to regular rules in the final two minutes of each half unless a team is ahead by 12 points.
Team fouls will be kept but not individual fouls and once a team hits five team fouls, the offended team will get one point and the ball.
Teams will shoot free throws like usual in the final two minutes of each half.
Also, the first team to score in overtime wins.
