CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Dexter's Emily Ladd finished second at the Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday as Poplar Bluff's Katie Sliger placed fifth and Katelyn Moeller was eighth, leading the Mules to third place.

Ladd finished the 3.1-mile course in 20 minutes, 40 seconds, crossing the finish line 18.78 seconds after Notre Dame's Alaina Baumgart won.

Sliger finished in 21:01 while Moeller ran a 21:27 as the Mules beat Valle Catholic by eight points for third place. Notre Dame beat DeSoto 37-46 for the team title while Dexter was fifth.

In the boys race, Jaden Deaton led the Mules in seventh place at 17:46 while Wesley Moore ran 18:01 for 12th. Poplar Bluff finished fifth, just six points from placing third.

Notre Dame's Blake Morris won the race in 16:25.41 as the Bulldogs took the team title over Ste. Genevieve 44-78.

Bloomfield's Riley Burns (18:36) placed 26th while Nick Carter (18:50) was 31st.

Carter Dorton's 18:56 for 35th led the Bearcats while Dawson Kastin (19:04) was 40th. Sean Rybolt (19:34) was 61st, Lucas Goodrich (19:38) 63rd while Andrew Ellinghouse (21:42) also scored for Dexter.

Margo Nea (22:52) finished 25th for Dexter, Madelyn Haynes (25:29) 50th with Hailee Mayfield (28:24) beating Olivia Milam by 0.11 of a second for 60th followed by Jonni Hill.

Brooke Slayton finished 28th for Poplar Bluff in 23:24 while Ava Smith (24:57) was 46th and Natalie Clark (26:17) finished 54th.

Victor Olivain (18:44) finished 27th for the Mules while Dylan Cisne (19:33) was 60th, Brendan Yarbro (20:00) 73rd, Seth Ingle (20:26) 81st and Brent Worley (20:33) 85th.

VOLLEYBALL

Poplar Bluff finished sixth at the Quad State Tournament in Paducah, Kentucky on Saturday following a first-round loss.

The Mules (15-9) won two of three matches in pool play, splitting a pair Friday without senior setter Hannah Vaughn, who was named homecoming queen.

Freshman Zoe Savat had 26 assists in two matches Friday, a 25-13, 25-15 loss to Madison Academy and a 25-10, 25-11 win over Christian Academy of Louisville.

"Zoe did a great job," Mules coach Amanda Lance said. "We were glad to have Hannah back."

Vaughn averaged 19.5 assists in four matches Saturday.

The Mules beat Hopkins Central 25-16, 25-17 to end pool play but lost 25-14, 25-13 to Breckinridge County. Following a 25-14, 25-13 win over Madisonville North of Hopkins, the Mules lost 25-22, 25-18 to Owensboro Catholic in the fifth-place match.

Kiley Bess ended the weekend with 35 kills, three blocks and 18 digs in the six matches. Doni Everts had 28 kills, three blocks and three aces. Khelie Spence added 22 kills, Haley Slaughter had 19 kills and 10 aces while Sophia Rowland chipped in 19 kills and four aces.
