The Poplar Bluff Piranhas swim team opened its season Saturday by hosting a meet at the Black River Coliseum Aquatic Center. The host Piranhas won 26 events, including five relays, to finish second in the team standings. The Poplar Bluff Piranhas swim team opened its season Saturday by hosting a meet at the Black River Coliseum Aquatic Center.

The host Piranhas won 26 events, including five relays, to finish second in the team standings. Kennett won with 1,285 points followed by Poplar Bluff at 648, Charleston at 256 points and Dyersburg (Tenn.) at 28.

Owen McDaniel won four events while Cyrus Sagharichi was first to the wall in two and was second in another for Poplar Bluff in the Boys 13-14 division. Carson Todd won two events while Darius Sagharichi and Christian Todd also won in the Boys 15-18 while Poplar Bluff’s 6-Under and 8-Under boys got first place finishes by Matt Pestillos, who won two, Logan Crunk and Matthew Lance.

Dakota Collins won three events in the Girls 9-10 division Maclaren Moore and Marley Spain each won an event in the 11-12 division while Grace Cram was first in one event in the Girls 15-18 division.

The Piranhas travel Saturday to Perryville in a four-team meet.

McDaniel won the 100-yard freestyle, 100-backstroke, 100-breaststroke and 200-individual medley while helping the 200-freestyle relay with Cyrus Sagharichi, Tristan Morgan and Henry Duncan to a win at the 13-14 division. Sagharichi won the 100-butterfly and the 50-freestyle and was second in the backstroke at 1 minute, 28.42 seconds as McDaneil won in 1:25.94 with Morgan third. Morgan also placed third in the 100-breaststroke while Duncan was fourth in the 100-freestyle.

Poplar Bluff’s 13-14 girls relays both won featuring Keira Willis, Gracie Brown, Jessica Vick and Kinsley Gibbs. Willis finished second in three events while Brown was second in one and third in two others.

Poplar Bluff took the top three spots in the Girls 11-12 50-butterfly as Maclaren Moore won by 1.08 seconds. Marley Spain was second followed by Ella Shell. Spain won the 100-freestyle, 1.12 seconds in front of Gibbs. Moore also placed second int he 100-individual medley and was third in the 50-freestyle, 0.03 of a second behind the runner-up. Ella Shell was second in the 50-backstroke while Kennedy Shell was third in the 100-IM and fourth in the 50-backstroke. Moore, Spain and both Shells won the 200-medley relay while finishing second in the 200-freestyle relay.

At 9-10, Collins won the 50-backstroke at 40.44 while Grace Muse was second. Collins won the 50-butterfly and the 100-IM while Sophia Mulholland was second in the 100-freestyle and Muse was third in the 50-freestyle. Muse, Mulholland, Collins and Pauline Lagura were second in the 100-medley relay and 2.65 seconds behind the winner in the 100-freestyle relay.

Parker Hays placed second in the 50-backstroke and fourth in two other events while Zach Pestillos was fifth in the backstroke for his top finish.

At 15-18, Carson Todd won the 100-backstroke and 200-IM while finishing second in the 100-freestyle by 0.53 of a second and by 0.6 of a second in the 50-freestyle. Christian Todd won the 100-braststroke, placed second in the backstroke and third in the 50-freestyle. Darius Sagharichi won the 100-butterfly, placed second in the 200-IM and was fifth in the 50-freestyle. The Todds and Sagharichis combined to win the 200-medley relay.

Cram won the 100-butterfly and was third in the 50-freestyle and sixth in the 100-freestyle.

In the 8-Under division, Pestillos won the 25-freestyle and butterfly while Crunk won the breaststroke and was second in the backstroke. Jude Soriano had a pair of third-place finishes while Austin Crismon, Noah Vick, Soriano and Pestillos won the 100-freestyle relay.

Kyle Dunlap was third in the backstroke and teamed with Willa Cisne, Raylee Barnett and McKayla Habanera to place third in the 100-freestyle relay.

At 6-Under, Cisne won the 25-freestyle by 2.58 seconds and the 50-freestyle while placing second in the butterfly. Habanera was fourth in the backstroke.

Matthew Lance won the breaststroke and placed second in the 25-freestyle and butterfly while Connor Elliott was third in the backstroke and Guner Collins finished fourth in the freestyle and breaststroke.
