NAYLOR -- Alyssa Urich tossed a three-hitter and Callee Pickrell went 3 for 4 as the Naylor softball team opened the season with a 9-1 win over Cape Central on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles scored six runs in the third inning on six hits, including a two-run single off the bat of Aribi Pruett. Pickrell, Faith Sullivan, Emma Moman and Maddy Cagle each added hits in the inning.
Urich struck out five, walked two and gave up one earned run in the complete game win.
BASEBALL
Neelyville 14, Gideon 2
Jesse Griffin drove in five runs to help lead the Tigers past the Bulldogs on Friday.
Griffin hit a three-run homer in the first inning to give Neelyville a lead it never relinquished and finished 2 for 2 at the plate. Chaney Trout was 3 for 3 with a double and two singles while Wyatt Moon and Matt Dollins added two hits apiece in the run-rule victory.
Trout and Parker Jeffries pitched a scoreless inning each while Tyler Lowe struck out three over the final three innings.
East Carter 7, West County 3
Jordan Douglas went 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead the Redbirds past the Bulldogs in the opening round of the Bank of Grandin Classic on Friday in Ellsinore.
Jake Andrews added an RBI double while Wyatt Elliot, Alex Kearbey and Drew Asher chipped in a hit apiece.
Cody Hampton started and struck out three over 4 1.3 innings. He allowed two runs on five hits before Ahser replaced him and recorded a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings. Elliot closed out the game with a scoreless seventh frame.
Van Buren 4, Arcadia Valley 2
The Bulldogs grabbed an early lead on their way to a season-opening victory over the Tigers.
Trey Nicholson, Jacob O'Dell and Wyatt Dougherty each had RBI singles as Van Buren scored all the runs it needed in the top of the first inning. O'Dell was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Nicholson had two hits. Ethan Ponder, Steve Simmons, Kory Ricker and Hayden Barnes added a hit each.
Nicholson struck out one and walked one. He gave up two runs on six hits in four innings to get the win.
VOLLEYBALL
Bloomfield 2, Greenville 0 (25-15, 25-15)
Bailey Below and Jewel Chism each had eight kills to lead the Lady Wildcats Friday. They had two aces, as well, and Below notched two blockes. Nicole roper finished with 13 assists.
FOOTBALL
Sikeston 32, Charleston 26
Sikeston kept its winning streak against Charleston alive, but just barely, as it took an acrobatic overtime touchdown reception by Ricky Scott to pull out a victory in the 132nd meeting between the two schools.
Kennett 50, Fredericktown 14
The Indians scored the final 35 points and didn't allow a score after the first quarter. Kennet quarterback Patrick Maddox finished 9 for 14 passing for 181 yards.
Caruthersville 69, Portageville 34
The Caruthersville Tigers offense exploded for 62 first-half points with two touchdown runs from Deandre Davis and two touchdown passes from quarterback Charles Golliday.
Davis led Caruthersville in rushing with 150 yards on 8 carries while Golliday completed 8 of 10 passes for 124 yards and four touchdowns, including three to Bryce Strawn. The senior caught 4 passes for 74 yards.
