Two Poplar Bluff Mules along with five baseball players from Pemiscot and Dunklin Counties have received recognition on the 2018 Missouri Baseball Coaches Association All-State Baseball Team.
Poplar Bluff's Turner Fritts and Tyson Cox were selected to the MSHSAA Class 5 team after Poplar Bluff lost in the district championship.
Fritts had a .574 batting average with a .697 on-base percentage, a 1.230 slugging percentage and a 12.926 OPS. He hit 10 home runs, 35 RBIs and scored 37 runs.
Cox hit .432 with a .500 on-base percentage, .654 slugging percentage and a 1.154 OPS. He had three home runs, 20 RBIs and 32 runs scored and also had 32 of the team's 68 stolen bases.
Malden junior Gavin Bristow was selected as a first-team all-state catcher in Class 3. Bristow batted .432 with three home runs and 26 RBIs.
Malden senior Dee Triplett was selected as a first-team all-state infielder in Class 3. Triplett batted .506 with six home runs and 30 RBIs. Triplett went 7-2 with a 1.99 ERA. He struck out 60 in 45 2/3 innings pitched.
Malden senior Mason Brown was selected as a second-team all-state infielder in Class 3. Brown batted .378 with one home run, 21 RBIs, and 35 stolen bases. Brown went 5-3 with a 3.61 ERA. He struck out 56 in 40 2/3 innings pitched.
Malden junior Tye Miller was selected as a second-team all-state utility player in Class 3. Miller batted .304 with no home runs, 22 RBIs, and 32 stolen bases. Miller went 5-0 with a 4.22 ERA. He struck out 60 in 59 2/3 innings pitched.
For softball, five area players were been selected to the spring all-state team.
Malden senior Lana Reed has been selected as a first-team all-state catcher. Reed hit .645 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs.
Bernie sophomore Alyson Marcum has been selected as a second-team all-state pitcher. Marcum hit .750 with 13 home runs and 55 RBIs. She also finished 15-1 in the circle with a 1.21 ERA.
Malden senior Alexis Campbell has been selected as a second-team all-state infielder. Campbell batted .530 with four home runs and 26 RBIs her senior season. She also went 3-0 in the circle with a 3.62 ERA in 19 1/3 innings pitched.
Clearwater's Halle Gooch was selected as a first team infielder and teammate Rachel Rowold was selected as a second-team catcher.
