Neelyville picked up the top seeds for both the girls and boys Ozark Foothills Conference Tournaments and gets the first-round byes that go with it.
"I think it is neat for our school to have both of our varsity teams have the No. 1 seed," Neelyville coach Patrick Morton said. "Coach (Becky) Hale has done an amazing job with that program."
Coupled with both top seeds going to the same school, the brackets are pretty similar for both the boys and girls.
After the Tigers, Twin Rivers is the second seed in both tournaments, and Doniphan is the third seed in both.
Then Naylor, Greenville and Clearwater comprise the next three seeds, in some order, in both and East Carter is the No. 7 seed in both.
There is not more than a two spot difference between the boys and girls teams for any school.
The first round of the tournament is Saturday at Clearwater High school. The second round is Monday at Clearwater while the championship games will be Feb. 9 at Three Rivers College.
On the boys' side, Neelyville (15-4, 5-1 OFC) will play the winner of No. 4 Naylor or No. 5 Clearwater in the semifinals.
Neelyville's lone conference loss this season was by two points to Clearwater, and would potentially have to face the Tigers on their home court in the semifinals.
"Those teams are both some scary teams to play," Morton said. "Everybody in the tournament can come out and win a game on any given night. Any matchup you go into is a scary matchup."
Neelyville got the edge over No. 2 Twin Rivers (10-9, 5-1 OFC) because the Royals lost to Neelyville by seven points on Jan. 19.
In that game, Neelyville's Taylor Harlow sank a go-ahead 3 with 4 1/2 minutes left in the fourth quarter for his only field goal and the Tigers held on late.
Neelyville grabbed seven more rebounds in the game and held Twin Rivers to 35 percent shooting.
The Tigers, though, have lost senior Wyatt Moon for the season due to injury. Morton said the offense hasn't changed much without Moon's production and everyone has stepped up since.
"We've dealt with some adversity this year as far as injuries and sickness and a lot of those were right around our conference games," Morton said.
Twin Rivers will face No. 7 East Carter (6-12, 1-5) at 1:30 p.m.
The Royals previously beat East Carter 65-49 on Jan. 26. The Redbirds' lone OFC win this season was against Greenville.
The Dons (8-13, 4-2) will play No. 6 Greenville (6-11, 1-4) in the opening round at 2:30 p.m. The night following the seed meeting, Doniphan beat Greenville by 15 points. The Dons have lost to Neelyville and Twin Rivers. After beating Puxico and Bernie to open the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament, and eventually finishing fifth, Doniphan has gone 5-6 since. Saturday's opening round will be the Dons' fourth game in five days.
Naylor (6-10, 1-4) has beaten East Carter and has yet to play Clearwater, its opponent in the opening game of the tournament at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.
For the girls, it is no surprise that Neelyville is the top seed once again. The Lady Tigers have won the OFC Tournament 10 years in a row and are on a 31-game OFC winning streak.
"I think a lot of the little things add up to big things, just playing hard, rebounding and playing together," Neelyville coach Becky Hale said of the team's consistency. "Everybody is gunning for us and I know people are wanting another shot at us, so we are going to have to buckle down and play every game like its our last and get the job done."
Neelyville (17-4, 6-0) and No. 2 Twin Rivers (13-8, 5-1) went into the week tied at the top of the standings at 5-0, but then Neelyville steamrolled the Lady Royals by 37 points on Monday.
Neelyville will face the winner of No. 4 Greenville (10-10, 3-3) and No. 5 Naylor (7-10, 1-4) in the semifinals.
"Naylor and Greenville, they are playing well right now and Naylor has a tough schedule throughout the year. We are just going to have to do what we know how to do and play hard," Hale said.
Greenville has conference wins against Clearwater, Naylor, Doniphan and East Carter.
Naylor's lone OFC win was against East Carter. The Lady Eagles must still play Clearwater.
Greenville and Naylor play at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
The Lady Royals will face No. 7 East Carter (3-15, 0-5) at 5 p.m. In their previous meeting, Twin Rivers won 59-30.
No. 3 Doniphan (12-8, 3-3) will face No. 6 Clearwater (6-4, 1-4) at 3:45 p.m. Doniphan previously beat Clearwater 66-57.
