With a 1-stroke lead, Nathan Woolard birdied the 17th hole for a 2-and-1 victory over his older brother, Nick, to win the 2017 Westwood Hills Country Club match play championship Sunday.

Nathan, a Poplar Bluff senior, was 5-under par for the match with five birdies, an eagle and two bogies.

It was the first appearance in the finals for the brothers.

Nathan defeated Brad Thielemier 3-and-2 to advance to the final round of the 29-player event while Nick knocked out Bobby Godwin with a 4-and-3 victory in the other semifinal.

Nathan also defeated Zach Stricker 5-and-4 in the quarterfinals. Nick followed suit with a 3-and-1 win over Ryan McVey.

Godwin ousted Aron Persons with a 2-and-1 win and Thielemier beat Pullum 5-and-4.
