CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The Poplar Bluff volleyball team served up a third straight win in its final tune-up before the conference and district tournaments Monday.

The Mules had six aces and finished with a 91.8 service percentage in a 25-17, 25-12 win at Cape Central to end SEMO North Conference play 4-3.

Poplar Bluff (18-9) was led by seven kills from Kiley Bess while Sophia Rowland chipped in four. Doni Everts and Khelie Spence each had three kills with Everts adding two blocks and a team-high two aces. Haley Slaughter also had a block with two kills. Hannah Vaughn had 16 assists, a kill and an ace. Ady Kingree led with 13 digs.

The Mules have won three straight matches and will play Sikeston, Cape Central, Notre Dame and Jackson Tuesday night in pool play at the Cape Girardeau SportsPlex. Bracket play will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, also at the SportsPlex.

The Mules will then prepare for the MSHSAA Class 4 District 1 tournament at Farmington. Poplar Bluff is the No. 2 seed and will face either Cape Central or third-seeded Farmington in the semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16. The winner advances to the championship match at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Poplar Bluff won the junior varsity match 25-19, 25-23 to finish its season 11-13-2.
