Jack Harrison won the 200-yard individual medley for Poplar Bluff boys swimming by nearly a 30-second margin Thursday at the Black River Coliseum. Harrison finished with a time of 2 minutes, 18.62 seconds to claim first.

Gavin Vaughn earned second in the 200-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 2:11.02. Vaughn also clocked a 1:07.73 time in the 100-yard butterfly to earn fourth.

Caden Ridens placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle with his time of 30.32. He finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a 1:09.41, and Christian Todd was right behind him in fifth with a time of 1:09.66. Todd finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking 1:25.30.

The relay team of Vaughn, Ridens, Todd and Harrison earned third in the 200-yard freestyle. That same team placed second in the 400-yard relay with a time of 4:13.69.

Thursday's games

GIRLS TENNIS

Simone Anders was able to come away with a 9-7 win in her No. 6 singles match as Poplar Bluff fell to Cape Central 8-1 Thursday.

In No. 1 singles, Sara Holland fell in an 8-1 outing. Mya White won two games in an 8-2 set against Emily Webb. Clarissa Varner was swept 8-0 in No. 3 singles.

Megan Murphy played the No. 4 spot in singles, losing 8-0. Annaleese Williams was swept 8-0 before Anders came in at the six spot to act as a silver lining for the Mules' rough day.

In No. 1 doubles, Holland and Murphy dropped their set, 8-1. White and Varner won two games but came up short in the No. 2 spot, 8-2. Williams and Anders won four games, but ultimately fell just short, 8-4.

FALL BASEBALL

Clearwater 12,

South Iron 2, 5 inn

Clearwater baseball earned its fourth run-rule victory of the season and stayed undefeated with its win over South Iron (2-8).

Heath Ayers pitched two innings for Clearwater (8-0), allowing three hits and one earned run, and Trey Rivas tossed three. Rivas dealt five strikeouts and didn't allow a hit.

Van Buren 6, East Carter 1

Van Buren (9-6) put up eight hits and only allowed one against East Carter (12-4), including three in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. Cody Hampton recorded East Carter's only hit of the day and scored his team's only run.

Greenville 8, Twin Rivers 3

Jack Becker knocked in two runs to help lead Greenville (9-5) to an 8-3 win over Twin Rivers (4-8). Tye Huff and Keith Eudaley both scored three runs for the Bears, and the team tallied 10 hits on the day. Tye Huff pitched a complete game, striking out 13 and conceding just three earned runs.

Bell City 1, Advance 0

Luke Nichols spent 6 1/3 innings on the mound for Bell City (6-4) and allowed just one hit while striking out 11 in a pitcher's duel. Clayson Anderson scored the game's lone run with JT Robey batting him in. Hunter Curtis pitched for Advance (8-7), giving up four hits and striking out six.
