JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Malden picked up a pair of individual MSHSAA Class 2 state championships Saturday.

Alyexus Leshay won the state title in the triple just with a leap of 36 feet, 11.5 inches while Robert Wilson won the shot put with a throw of 51 feet, 6.75 inches. Morris increased his distance with each of his five throws and his total distance by nearly five feet from his fist throw.

The Green Wave finished 21st in both the boys and girls standings.

Broddric Annesser took 14th in the javelin with a throw of 132 feet, 6 inches.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Jada Criglar, Jaycie Jones, Aylexus Leshay and Arionne Ross finished fifth with a time of 51.81 seconds.

In Class 1, Van Buren's Jenny Morey finished third in the 800 with a time of 2:25.46. Emma Homfeldt of Calvary Lutheran won the even in 2:23.08.

Krisman Eakin broke the Poplar Bluff school record in the 400 with a time of 58.55 seconds. Tenisha Britton set the record in 1997 with a time of 58.7.

"It was quite a pleasant shock," Poplar Bluff coach Beth Lewis-Muse said. "I don't think that was something we were eying today."

Eakin also qualified for state in the 100 and 200 events. She took fourth in the 100 in 12.45 and third in the 200 in 25.49.

Kaylee Eakin shattered a personal record in the long jump of 16 feet, 4 inches with a leap of 17 feet, 9 inches to finish second.

"I actually got to measure the jump so it was cool to be right there," Lewis-Muse said.

Khelie Spence finished second in the 100 hurdles in 15.40.

Shelby Sievers got fourth in the shot put with a throw of 35 feet, 2.25 inches to give Poplar Bluff four girls in six events at state.

It is Krisman Eakin's and Kaylee Eakin's fourth time qualifying for state and Sievers' third.

Spence, a sophomore and the only non-senior in the group, qualified for a second time.

"I'm very pleased with the ones that got through. I think they'll do a good job of representing us at state," Lewis-Muse said.

The same group finished 38th at state last year with two points after Kaylee Eakin and Sievers finished eighth in the long jump and shot put.

For the boys, Makarius Bell won the discus with a throw of 145 feet, 8 inches and got third in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 0.5 inches.

Wyatt Murphy won the 100 meters and 200 meters in 10.91 and 22.15 seconds. He was the only person under 11 seconds in the 100.

Logan Bell was second in the javelin the a toss of 153 feet, 8 inches and Rashawn McCain got fourth with 146 feet, 9 inches.

Rufus Ward was third in the 110 hurdles in 15.02.

Brett Barousse finished second in the pole vault with a height of 14 feet, 6 inches.

Barousse, Josiah Kilgore, Colby Tomlinson and Austin Tinsley got third in the 4x100 in 43.06.

Dexter senior Hannah Moore qualified for two events in Class 4 on Saturday at Rockwood Summit High School in St. Louis.

Moore placed second in the 400-meter run in 59.78 seconds and was third in the long jump with 16 feet, 9 inches.

Moore nearly qualified in a third event, finishing fifth in the 200 in 26.57 seconds, missing the state cut by .07 of a second.

Dexter's girls finished 13th out of 22 teams with 21 points. Notre Dame (Cape Girardeau) finished atop the team standings with 80.

Dexter's boys were 19th with seven points. Rockwood Summit finished first with 131.33.

GOLF

Poplar Bluff alumna Analeise Pyland finished 33rd out of 116 players at the NJCAA National Golf Tournament for John A. Logan Community College.
