ELLSINORE -- Makenna Chilton blasted a double and Jalynn Morgan tossed a four-hitter as the Van Buren softball team beat East Carter 7-3 in the battle of Carter County Friday.
Morgan also doubled, drove in a run and struck out one in a complete game win for the Lady Dawgs (8-3). The junior walked four and allowed three runs (two earned).
Courtney Tripp drove in three runs and had a hit while Brooke Jackson and Hailie Hampton both went 2 for 4.
Naomi Crowley, Payton Gholson, Kennedy Thies and Bailey Gargac each had a hit for East Carter (3-5). Makenna Moore took the loss, giving up four earned runs on eight hits.
Neelyville 9, Cuba 3
Emily Dollins knocked in two runs with a pair of doubles while Mackenzie Hobbs and Lexi Nippe added one apiece to help the Lady Tigers knock off the Wildcats on the road.
Madison Dollins was 3 for 3, Payton Reinbott batted 2 for 4 and Taylor Smith added a hit for Neelyville (3-6), which had 14 in the win.
Reinbott struck out 10, walked four and allowed two earned runs on seven hits.
BASEBALL
Naylor 5, Puxico 3
Seth Jones struck out seven in his first game back on the mound since a wrist injury, as the Eagles outlasted the Indians on the road. Jones didn't walk a batter and gave up three unearned runs on four hits over four innings.
Jones went 1 for 3 at the plate with an RBI while Jordan Cook doubled twice, scored twice and finished with three hits. Cody Jones, Chase Sarabia and Caleb Urich also doubled for Naylor (2-7).
Advance 4, Bloomfield 2
Dalton Phillips was 3 for 4 with two runs to lead Bloomfield (1-10). Brandon Siler and Ethan Pennington each had an RBI as the Wildcats finished with seven hits.
Siler pitched a complete game in the loss and allowed 10 hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
Oran 9, Bernie 3
The Mules were limited to five hits in their first loss of the fall.
Dalton Hobgood had two hits. Bernie struck out 10 times and didn't have an RBI.
Bernie also beat Campbell 14-4 over the weekend. Hobgood was 4 for 5 with four runs and four RBIs. Nate Dillinger also had four RBIs and Mason Mayberry had three.
