FARMINGTON -- The Poplar Bluff Junior High football teams ran past Farmington Thursday, winning the seventh grade game 35-0 and the eighth grade game 47-8.
Gage Rivers scored two touchdowns including an 81-yard kickoff return to open the game while four other Mules found the end zone to lead the eight grade team.
Justin Mitchell scored on a 38-yard run, Garrett Lazlier and Lukas Tinsley scored on 16-yard runs and quarterback Chandler Beaton found pay dirt on a 53-yard burst.
Poplar Bluff (3-0) gave up its only touchdown when a Mules defender deflected a pass that a Farmington receiver caught for a 38-yard TD. Luke Barousse added an interception for the Mules to close out the game.
The seventh grade Junior Mules got three touchdown runs from Jeridon Young, including two to open the game. Michael Miller added a 3-yard run and the Junior Mules returned a punt 25 yards for a touchdown to cap the scoring and open the season with a win.
Poplar Bluff travels to Cape Central with the seventh grade game Wednesday and eighth grade game Thursday.
