O'FALLON, Mo. -- Chance Holden started the final round of the Missouri Stroke Play Championships two shots behind the leader then birdied the first hole at WingHaven Country Club.

The Dexter golf, however, couldn't get under par and ended up eighth at 4-over 292 while Brian Whitson of Dexter placed 10th at 296.

Sam Migdal of Ballwin emerged from a four-way tie heading into the final round with a 3-under-par round that featured four birdies and one bogey for a 2-shot victory over Jeremy Franklin of St. Louis.

Holden entered Wednesday tied for second, two shots behind Franklin, after two rounds. He and Franklin both carded 75 in the third round while Migdal shot 71 to tie Franklin and two others for the lead.

Holden's first --and only -- double bogey came on his 46th hole, the par-4 first, dropping him to 2-over for the tournament. He bounced back with a birdie on the par-5 second and got another on the par-5 fifth to get back to 1-over following a bogey on the previous hole. Holden ended the morning round at 2-over, trailing the leading group of four players by two shots.

He opened the afternoon round with a birdie on the same hole as the double bogey in the third round but carded bogeys on two of the next three holes to fall to 3-over. After five straight pars, Holden fell to 4-over with a bogey on 10 and had another on 14, both par-4 holes, before a birdie on the par-3 15th and three straight pars to finish.

Whitson entered Wednesday sitting 28th at 8-over before heating up on the back nine in the third round. He carded his third birdie of the day on the par-3 12th before another two holes later and on the par-4 18th to reach 6-over for the tournament. After playing 3-under on the back nine, Whitson started his final round there but only managed pars. He got to 5-over with a birdie on the par-4 third, his 11th of the final round. But a bogey on the next hole and double bogey on the par-5 fifth, which he had played 1-under in the first three rounds, knocked Whitson back to 8-over.

Migdal pulled away with birdies on two of his first four holes and was bogey free until No. 13 before a birdie-birdie-par finish completed his victory.

Franklin was the only other player to finish under par at 1-under while Alex Cusumano of St. Louis and Travis Mays of Overland Park, Kansas were at even-par 288.

WOMEN'S AMATEUR

Poplar Bluff's Analeise Pyland tied for 45th at the 87th Missouri Women's Amateur.

Pyland finished at 54-over-par 267 with five others. Her final round featured six pars and seven bogeys.

Jess Meek of Columbia won the three-round tournament by six shots at 6-over 219.
