August Squirrels

With all the changes around here, I haven’t been able to spend a single minute checking on things in the outdoors, but if I had to guess, I’d say squirrels should be starting to hit the hickory trees pretty hard.

Last year, there weren’t many productive hickories and I never really saw a lot of squirrels actively in them. But with that said, this is a new year and mid-August is normally the time you can find squirrels sampling hickory nuts in earnest, and honestly, it’s one of my favorite times to hunt them. Besides, August squirrel hunts provide a good way to scout for the deer season and check on the acorn crop.
