SIKESTON -- The second-seeded Kennett Indians scored five first-inning runs and two more in the second to take a commanding lead to beat Dexter 11-1 in the first round of the MSHSAA Class 4 District 1 baseball tournament Saturday. SIKESTON -- The second-seeded Kennett Indians scored five first-inning runs and two more in the second to take a commanding lead to beat Dexter 11-1 in the first round of the MSHSAA Class 4 District 1 baseball tournament Saturday.

Marshall Brown picked up the win, allowing one run on one hit with one strikeout and one walk in 3 1/3 innings.

Spencer Owens was charged with the loss, yielding five runs (one earned) on four hits with no strikeouts and one walk in one inning.

Zane Wallace homered and drove in three runs to lead Kennett's 10-hit attack. Ty Ellis and Patrick Maddox doubled for the Indians.

Clay Mullins had one of Dexter's two hits, a double.

Bernie 11, Hayti 0

Second-seeded Bernie's Wyatt Barnett and Weston Zoll held Hayti to one hit Saturday in the first round of the MSHSAA Class 2 District 1 tournament at Bernie.

Barnett was the winning pitcher in a game shortened to five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule. He pitched three hitless innings, allowing one walk and striking out seven.

Barnett, Weston Comstock, Nate Dillinger and Hunter Slavings homered for the Mules.

Senath-Hornerville 10, Bloomfield 6

Third-seeded Senath-Hornersville rallied from a 3-2 deficit to beat Bloomfield in the first round of the MSHSAA Class 2 District 1 tournament at Bernie.

The Lions scored four runs in the third to take a 6-3 lead and added two in the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding lead.

Ethan Hutchison went 4 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs to pace Bloomfield, which finished with seven hits.
