COLUMBIA, Mo. --Three Dexter wrestlers advanced to the quarterfinals Thursday at the MSHSAA Class 2 State Wrestling Tournament at Columbia.
Jett Featherston, Bryston Pemberton and Travis Waldner won their first-round matches.
Featherston (37-8) defeated Colby Wilson, of Odessa, 7-4 in the 182-pound class. He will meet Kayde Burton (48-4), of Chillicothe, in the quarterfinals Friday.
Pemberton (44-7) defeated Caleb Worland, of Cameron, 8-4 in the 106-pound division. He will face Jackson Caswell (44-4) in the quarterfinals.
Waldner (43-4) beat Jonah Gann, of Logan-Rogersville, 6-3. He will meet Colten Sewell, of Chillicothe, in the quarterfinals.
Seth Harris and Mason Keena lost their first-round matches but stayed alive in the double-elimination tournament with wins on the consolation bracket.
Erin Holt, of Reeds Spring, defeated Harris 8-7 in the 120-pound class, but Harris recovered to beat Thorin Green, of Cameron, 6-3.
Dean Foster, of Savannah, won 6-4 in sudden victory over Keena in the 145-pound class. On the consolation bracket, Keena defeated Blayne Wieberg, of Mexico, Mo., 7-5.
Harris and Keena will meet undetermined opponents in the consolation second round Friday.
CJ Greene's tournament run ended after two matches. Sam Hrabovsky, of Fulton, pinned him 1 minute, 53 seconds in the first round of the 113-pound class. Will Courtney, of Savannah, pinned him in 29 seconds in the first round of the consolation bracket.
The Bearcats were 26th out of 48 teams in the standings following the first day. They had eight points. Odessa and Ste. Genevieve were tied for first with 25.
