CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Poplar Bluff rallied from a three-run deficit to pull even in the sixth inning then lost the lead as Chaffee edged the Mules 5-4. An error to start the bottom of the sixth allowed Chaffee's Madeline Hendrix to reach base. She moved to second on a bunt and scored the go-ahead run on a single to right field by Shana Burden...

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Poplar Bluff rallied from a three-run deficit to pull even in the sixth inning then lost the lead as Chaffee edged the Mules 5-4.

An error to start the bottom of the sixth allowed Chaffee's Madeline Hendrix to reach base. She moved to second on a bunt and scored the go-ahead run on a single to right field by Shana Burden.

The Mules (8-4) committed three errors but overcame a 4-1 deficit in the sixth.

Brylee Misner hit her second home run of the season, a solo shot to center field in the fifth, and tripled in a run in the sixth.

Audrey Lack opened the sixth with a double and scored on Shelby Sievers' two-out double. Misner then followed with an RBI triple and scored on Lauren Alexander's single.

Lack, Misner, Sievers and Alexander were each 2 for 3. Sievers had two doubles and picked up the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs on eight hits while striking out eight to match her season high.

Chaffee (2-2) jumped ahead with a two-out home run by Bridgette Swinford in the third inning and got a two-out RBI single for a 4-1 lead in the fifth.

Van Buren 3, Cape Central 2

Makenna Chilton drove in a pair of runs on two hits as the Van Buren softball team ignited an early rally and held on to pick up a win at Three Rivers College.

With two outs in the second inning, Chilton's RBI single scored two runs and gave the Lady Dawgs a lead they never relinquished. Chilton was 2 for 2 while Logan Crafton went 1 for 3 and singled in another run in the third. Jennifer Morey and Morgan Shockley added a hit apiece.

Jalynn Morgan went the distance in the circle to get the win for Van Buren (3-0). She allowed two unearned runs and recorded four strikeouts and one walk.

Sikeston 12, Twin Rivers 5

The Bulldogs used 17 hits to cruise past the visiting Royals.

Allie Kacynski was 3 for 4 and drove in two runs while Madison Chavez and Bella Galloway went 2 for 4 for Twin Rivers (0-4), which had 10 hits in the loss.

Galloway and Kacynski each struck out two in three innings. Galloway started and gave up six earned runs on seven hits and three walks to take the loss. Kacynski gave up six more (three earned) on seven hits and two walks.

BASEBALL

East Carter 10, Alton 0

Cody Hampton tossed a no-hitter and struck out 10 as the Redbirds demolished the Comets at home.

Hampton needed 93 pitches to pick up the six-inning shutout. He threw 58 pitches for strikes, hit two batters and walked one in the win.

Jake Andrews hit a double and drove in three for East Carter (5-2). Dalton Rudd was 3 for 3 with a double and three runs scored, Matt McLean was 2 for 2 with a pair of RBIs and Wyatt Elliot tripled and scored.

Senath-Hornersville 7, Neelyville 6, 8 innings

Clinging to a two-run lead, the Tigers gave up three unanswered runs and fell to the host Lions on a walk-off single in the eighth inning.

Carter Petty was 1 for 4 with two RBIs while Wyatt Moon went 2 for 4 and scored twice. Chaney Trout hit an RBI double and Matt Dollins, Jessie Griffin and Noah Burton each drove in a run for Neelyville (3-2).

Austin Ennis started and gave up four runs (three earned) in three innings with five strikeouts. Matt Dollins pitched two scoreless innings while Trout and Parker Jefferies surrendered three combined runs in the final 2 1/3 innings.

Eminence 7, Van Buren 5

The Bulldogs made a valiant effort in the final two innings but their rally fell short in a home loss to the Redwings.

Van Buren (2-5) scored three runs in the sixth on back-to-back double by Ethan Ponder and Steve Simmons but couldn't muster another hit. Trey Nicholson went 2 for 4 and Connor Jackson was 1 for 3 with and RBI.

VOLLEYBALL

Malden 2, Portageville 0 (25-15, 25-18)

Lana Reed paced the offense with four kills as the Green Wave stayed undefeated and won their third straight over a district opponent.

Gracie Thomas and Lexi Campbell added three kills apiece and Lydia Harris had two kills for Malden (3-0). The Green Wave recorded 10 aces serving. Thomas had a team-high four aces and Harris added three more aces.

Farmington 2, Dexter 1

(25-19, 25-27, 25-17)

Hannah Thurmon led Dexter with 15 kills in the loss. Maycie Martin added eight kills while Addie Kruse had seven kills and seven digs. Bailee Williams finished with 27 assists and seven digs.

Notre Dame 2, Bernie 1

(25-19, 19-25, 25-14)

Cymber Arnold led the Lady Mules with eight kills and 11 digs. Logan Mayberry added seven kills and Taylor Anthony had six. Taylor Lovelady led the Bernie (2-1) defense with 12 digs.
