The Bloomfield Wildcats placed third in the MSHSAA Class 1 Boys Golf State Championship after posting a two-day total of 701 Tuesday at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.

The Wildcats posted the day's second-best score of 352, but Westran (700) shot 350 to overtake them for second place. Bloomfield was second after one round, one stroke ahead of Westran.

Gallatin won the eight-team tournament with a two-day total of 696, beating Westran by four strokes and Bloomfield by five.

Jett Simmons, of Gallatin, won the individual state championship with a two-day total of 8-over 152, beating second-place Preston Richardson, of Miller, by one stroke.

Two Bloomfield players won all-state medals. Peyton Bell tied for eighth with 160 (83-77) after improving his second-round score by six strokes. Holden Duckworth finished 12th with 164 (75-89).

All-state medals are awarded to the top 15 individual scorers.

Bloomfield's Dustin Debeaux tied for 45th with 184 (90-94), Levi Clary tied for 61st with 193 (101-92) and Brandt Hobbs finished 79th with 207 (107-100).

Spencer Warren, of Dexter, tied for 42nd in the Class 3 championship on Tuesday at Old Kinderhook Golf Course in Camdenton.

After a first-round 89, Warren shaved 15 strokes of his score to shoot a 4-over 74 for a two-day total of 163.

Gulshan Kodwani, of Priory, won the individual championship with 140, posting consecutive rounds of even-par 70.

Kodwani beat teammate Peter Weaver by three strokes for the state title.

Priory won the team championship with 592, beating second-place Helias Catholic by 10 strokes.

The first round was suspended Monday because of weather and was completed early Tuesday morning.

TENNIS

Dexter's Eric Hahn and Nate Gargas earned a trip to the MSHSAA Class 1 Boys Tennis State Tournament with a straight-set victory on Tuesday in Imperial.

Hahn/Gargas, the runners-up in District 1, beat District 2 champions Parker Schaefer and Alex Barton, of Windsor, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch a spot in the state individual tournament May 25 at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.

Hahn/Gargas qualified for Tuesday's sectional by placing second Saturday in the Class 1 District 1 Individuals Tournament at Notre Dame in Cape Girardeau.

The juniors beat Devin Lincoln and Hayden Morrill, of Notre Dame, 6-0, 6-0, in the quarterfinals. They beat Logan Harris and Les Copeland, of North County, 6-1, 6-0, in the semifinals.

Isaac Hopkins and Andrew West, of Notre Dame, beat Hahn/Gargas 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, in the district championship match.

Logan Wyman and Travis Propst finished third in the doubles tournament. They beat Lang Li and Grant Lawson, of Sikeston 6-2, 6-1, in the first round before losing 6-2, 6-3, to Hopkins/West in the semifinals.

Wyman/Propst beat Harris/Copeland 6-3, 6-1, in the third-place match.

Brett Johnson, of Sikeston, beat teammate Warren Chinwuko 6-1, 6-1, to win the singles championship.

Dexter's team will face Clayton at 10 a.m. Saturday in a sectional matchup in Clayton.

The winner will face either St. Pius X (Festus) or Bishop DuBourg in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. at the same location.
