New Hope Christian Academy’s Cassandra Haldeman signed her letter of intent recently to continue her archery and academic career at Kentucky Christian University.
Kentucky Christian University was founded in 1919 and is located in Grayson, Kentucky.
Haldeman is a member of the Southeast Missouri School of Archery and was the 2022 Missouri SOY.
"I'm beyond thrilled to be attending Kentucky Christian University," she said. "Coach Whitt and I have been talking for years at every national tournament. I feel this is where God has led me. I can't wait to see what this new chapter of my life holds and all the amazing opportunities that come with it. I would like to thank my mom for encouraging me to start archery and taking me to all the tournaments across the country. Also, Jim Akers for coaching me many hours and becoming like family over the years, and Grandpa for loaning me the money for my first big girl competition bow.”
Haldeman’s new coach at KCU, Mark Whitt, was an assistant for Boyd County High School in Kentucky in 2018 when the Lions won a national championship.
At the Missouri S3DA State 3D Archery Tournament, Haldeman finished fourth in her division with one bullseye while her teammate Zoie Davis took first.
Only 27 colleges have archery teams (9 in NCAA, 12 in NAIA, 6 in other) with more than 400 total athletes last year.
