What was always told to be the hottest July 11 on record. Woodrow Hughes married the loving couple at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Clubb, Mo. Dwain is the son of the late Arla and Edith Robinson of Wappapello. Veda is the daughter of Letha and the late Denver Skaggs, who lived in Turkey Creek area at the time.

They met in high school while attending Greenville R-II, but if you ask Dwain, they have dated since kindergarten, despite the fact they both attended different one room schoolhouses on opposite sides of the county.

Dwain and Veda have two children. Julie Robinson works and lives in Cape Girardeau. Andy (Brandi) Robinson live in Wappapello with their three children, Bailey McLean, Aricka and Isabella Robinson.

As they were beginning their lives together, Dwain graduated from Baily Tech in St. Louis that December with a Certification in Diesel Mechanics. They moved to Springfield, Mo., where Veda had just started to attend beauty school when Dwain was drafted, causing them to move back to Robinson hilltop.

Later, Dwain started work at Seminole Quarry in Shook, then onto Southern Truck and Trailer for the next 10 years while Veda worked in Puxico at Ralph Edwards Sportswear till it closed. Veda was working as the cook for Robinson Hilltop Home until Dwain’s business (Robinson Truck and Auto Sales) took off in the 1980s.

Dwain’s sisters used to tease him that he got a better deal than Veda when they got married.

Today you will find them both working together each day, just as they have for the past 30 plus years, alongside their children and grandchildren running the family business and cattle farm.

Because of the restrictions related to current social distancing, we are unable to have a celebration party. If friends and family would like to send an anniversary card to recognize this milestone in their lives, the mailing address is 3769 Wayne 524, Wappapello, Mo., 63966.

Anniversary announcement submissions may be made online through www.darnews.com
