FISK, Mo. — Wilma May (Lindsay) Rhodes, 97, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, died Friday, April 8, 2022 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, in Poplar Bluff.
Mrs. Rhodes was born July 1, 1924 at Bernie, Missouri, the eldest child of the late Chester and Arcadia (Young) Lindsay. She moved to Butler County at the age of 15 and was baptized as a teenager. She married Lawrence Rhodes Sept. 25, 1943 at Corning, Arkansas. He preceded her in death May 28, 1999 at Fisk, Missouri after 55 years of marriage.
Wilma worked at the Smiley Box Factory in Poplar Bluff for 18 years making many life-long friends. She loved to garden, read, sew and quilt. She also loved to sing and yodel as a young woman. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
Wilma leaves behind four children: Ann Veatch of Poplar Bluff, Sharon (Jerry Theobald) Davis of Williamsville, Larry (Jamie) Rhodes of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Ruby (Randy) Geiser of Belleville, Illinois. Also left to grieve are nine grandchildren: Vickie Moultrie, Doug Rhodes, Jamie Rhodes, Judy Moore, Kevin Davis, Angela Tullis, Jennifer Fairey, Candice Flowers and Tiffany Moncrief; 18 great grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother: Louie (Carol) Lindsay of Poplar Bluff; two sisters: Joyce Billington of Poplar Bluff and Virginia Cochran of Covert, Michigan; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wilma was preceded in death by three children: Tony Rhodes, and infant twin sons; two sons-in-law: Tommie Davis and David Veatch; one grandson: Chris Veatch; one great-grandson James Albert Rhodes; and eight siblings: Jack, Kenny, Leonard, Donnie, Chester Jr, and Mary Ellen Lindsay, Dorothy Stroud, Doris Cummings.
While grieving our loss, we take great comfort in knowing that she has met Jesus face to face and that Heaven is her home. We give thanks that she has finished the course in faith and can now rest from her labors. The family wishes to extend gratitude to Westwood Hills Health and Rehab Center. The care and love shown to our mother will always be remembered.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2022 at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Schremp officiating. Burial will be in Shain Memorial Cemetery at Fisk,
