Weldon Reed Jones, son of the late James Jones and Cora Canady Jones, was born June 21, 1926 in Bloomfield, Missouri, and departed this life Dec. 7, 2020 at Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter, Missouri, at the age of 94 wears.
Mr. Jones was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II and he was a former employee of the City of Dexter. He was of the General Baptist faith and a loving, Christian father. He was a talented musician and gospel singer. He loved to talk about God, tell jokes and spend time with family and friends. While staying with his son, he attended Johnson Road General Baptist Church in Granite City, Illinois, and he loved all the people there.
On Dec. 27, 1945 in Piggott, Arkansas, he was united in marriage to Louise Mae Kinser. Mrs. Jones preceded him in death June 30, 2018.
He is survived by three sons, Cleatus Jones and wife, Sue, of Troy, Illinois, Weldon Jones and wife, Bunny, of Bloomfield, and Don Jones and wife, Sheila, of Dexter; two daughters, Linda Kayler and husband, Johnny, of Dexter, and Cathy Chesnutt and husband, Richard, of Worden, Illinois; and 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his granddaughter, Angela Kayler.
Graveside services will be held at Walker Cemetery in rural Bloomfield at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020 with Rev. Tim Russell officiating.
