Walter B. Johnson, 88, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020. He was born Dec. 17, 1932 in Gravelton, Mo. to the late George Benjamin Johnson and Beulah Omega (Mullins) Johnson. He was of the Lutheran faith.

He served for 26 years in the National Guard. As a longtime resident of Poplar Bluff, he owned and operated Walt’s Body Shop. He had many interests such as fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was a long-time referee of local sports, which came from his love of the Cardinals baseball team.

Walter is survived by one son, Ronald Johnson of Salem, Mo. and one daughter, Cherie E. Payne of Poplar Bluff as well as three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020 in the Fitch-Hillis Chapel from 5-7 p.m. Services will be Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020 in the Fitch-Hillis Chapel at 10 a.m. officiated by Pastor Justin Sponaugle. Graveside service will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery of Cascade, Mo. Masks and social distancing are recommended.
