FISK, Mo. - Victor (Vic) Gene Adams of Fisk, died July 21, 2018, peacefully in his sleep from a hemorrhagic stroke.

He was born March 31, 1929 in Fisk, Missouri to May Elizabeth (Jolly) and Byron Victor Adams. He was a lover of sports including hunting, fishing, golf, baseball, basketball, and billiards. He participated in baseball on several teams in southern Missouri, in the military and in college before being inducted into the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. He served in the army during the Korean war. He graduated from Arkansas State University and then received Masters and Specialist degrees from SEMO.

He was a teacher, a coach, and was principal at Fisk Rombauer High School. He was one of the original "Downtowners" at Three Rivers Community College where he was an Occupational Counselor and served on the administrative staff. Numerous people give him credit for their careers. He and coworker, Dale Privett, wrote a grant securing $1,000,000 for that institution. After retirement, he served as a Three Rivers Trustee.

Vic was active in his community, serving many years as mayor and councilman at Fisk and as an elder of Fisk Presbyterian Church. He was largely responsible for establishing Fisk City Park by securing funding and donations and recruiting and organizing volunteers to do the labor. He was a leader in establishing the Fisk Nutrition Center and the Civic Center. He served many years on the Ozark Foothills Regional Planning Commission.

On Dec. 23, 1956 he married Jo Ann Hughes. She survives. Also surviving are two sons: David Adams and wife Matilda of Villa Ridge, Mo. and James Adams and wife Sandy of Kirksville, Mo.; two grandchildren: Maggie and Brooke Adams of Kirksville, Mo.; one sister: Alice Auvenshine and husband Dwight of Lexington, Ky. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Elizabeth Adams and one sister: Frances Haggeman.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 25 at White Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Elder Craig Hamilton and Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Shain Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Fisk Presbyterian Church.
