Vera Kathy Brannon, 67, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully in her home, Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020, vigilantly surrounded by her loving family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m., Nov. 14 at New Covenant Church in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, officiated by her niece, Genia Weitzel, with a Thanksgiving meal immediately following the service in the fellowship hall for all family and friends. Kathy loved meals shared with family and friends.
“Kathy” was born in Poplar Bluff to Clarence Otis and Hazel Marie Darlene “Fann” Gentry Jan. 17, 1953. She attended school in Poplar Bluff and Michigan. She married Bobbie Brannon on March 13, 1971 in Poplar Bluff at Faith Tabernacle Church officiated by Rev. Louise Copeland. She was a military wife for 18 years and retired in Springfield as a homemaker. She loved caring for her family and friends. She was an avid collector of bunnies and butterflies. She was a guardian for eight years to her “sonshine” grandson, Drew, who was her pride and joy. She donated to many organizations and gave freely of her time.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters: Lavenda Hopson, Katty Gordon, Glenda Sisk, Vonda Barker and Charlene Taylor; and a brother, Buddy Gentry, plus several nephews and nieces.
Kathy is survived by her husband Bob, daughter Debra, son Matthew and grandson Drew, brother Bill and his wife, Roxanna Gentry of Pollard, Arkansas and Verda Boruff and husband, Bill of Watervliet, Michigan, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Kathy and Drew loved sponsoring Delson, a child at Emmanuel Children’s Home Foundation of Haiti. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Emmanuel orphanage. The family of Kathy wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Compassus Hospice of Springfield, and nurse Heidi for her compassion. Arrangements are made by Walnut Lawn Funeral Home.
