FISK, Mo. -- Tom Schalk, 75, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Monday, April 9, 2018 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, in Saint Louis, Mo.
Mr. Schalk was born March 28, 1943 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. to the late George Albert and Ruby Jerolene (Welch) Schalk. He was a member of Rombauer General Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a Volunteer Butler County Fireman, enjoyed square dancing and was president of the Bluff City Twirlers.
He also enjoyed fly fishing, traveling, working on small engines and spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Schalk served in the Air Force during Vietnam war. He was retired from General Motors and was a member of UAW where he served as treasure for region five.
On July 17, 1966 he married Betty Baughn at Fisk, Mo. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons: Kenneth and Cheryl Schalk of Billings, Mo., Robert and Gayle Schalk of Poplar Bluff; one daughter: Sandy and Pleas Phelan of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; five sisters: Mary Bausworth of Saint Francis, Minn., Barbara Ayers of Poplar Bluff, June Yearwood of Banning, Calif., Cassie Smith of Fredericktown, Mo., Linda Chapman of Alpharetta, Ga.; and six grandchildren: Dr. Marah Heckman, Dr. Tasha Schalk, Pleasant Phelan, Amber Phelan, Logan Schalk and Jo Schalk.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018 at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Scott Wilkerson and Rev. Jim Schremp officiating. Burial will be in Rombauer Cemetery at Rombauer, Mo.
