Sophia Almeta Britton, 98, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri passed away, Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at The Manor in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Sophia was born on Aug. 12, 1923, to Charles and Lou (Butler) Cassinger in Coon Island, Missouri.

Sophia was of the Baptist faith. She was a great cook and prepared all the big holiday meals. Sophia enjoyed bowling and was on an all-girls family league for several years. She worked as a housekeeper for Kneibert Clinic and thoroughly enjoyed her job all the way up until she retired. One of her great loves in life was traveling. She liked to explore and experience new places in the world. Sophia also loved gardening and flowers. She was an extremely happy person, always laughing, smiling, and spreading joy to those around her. Sophia will truly be missed.

Sophia is survived by three children, Richard (Judy) Hancock, Peggy Montgomery, and Deborah Pruitt; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.

Sophia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, PJ Britton; one daughter, Lula Hines; two sisters; five brothers; son-in-law, Thomas Pruitt; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held from noon-1 p.m. Friday, July 1, 2022, at Cotrell Willow Ridge Funeral & Cremation Services. Funeral will follow beginning at 1 p.m. with Pastor Rick White officiating. Burial will take place at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
