NEELYVILLE — Ray “Grumpy” Britton of Harviell departed this life on Aug. 2, 2020, in Poplar Bluff Missouri, at the age of 87. Mr. Britton was born on Feb. 26, 1933, to the late Edwin and Nellie (Brawner) Britton in Liberty, Missouri. On Sept. 8, 1956, he married Betty Jensen in North Kansas City, Missouri. NEELYVILLE — Ray “Grumpy” Britton of Harviell departed this life on Aug. 2, 2020, in Poplar Bluff Missouri, at the age of 87.

Mr. Britton was born on Feb. 26, 1933, to the late Edwin and Nellie (Brawner) Britton in Liberty, Missouri.

On Sept. 8, 1956, he married Betty Jensen in North Kansas City, Missouri. She preceded in death on Aug. 23, 2016.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Louise Owsley, as well as one brother, Donald Britton.

He is survived by two children, Pat Pennington and husband, Gary, of Harviell Missouri, and Lynn Sheppard and husband, Bobby, also of Harviell; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Jennifer), Justin, Brooke (Curtis), and Ashley; three great-grandchildren, Lauren, Oliver and Cooper.

Mr. Britton served his country proudly, having served in the U.S. Navy and retiring from the U.S. Army as a drill sergeant, while doing tours in Korea and Vietnam, as well as being stationed in Germany.

In his spare time, he enjoyed reading Louis Lamar western books, watching westerns, sitting on his porch, visiting friends at the coffee shop and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, at 11 a.m. in Kinsey Cemetery near Harviell, Missouri. Donnie Fowler will officiate. Full military honors will follow.
