Peggy Irene (Brown) Baker, 80, of Qulin, Missouri departed this life Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, after an extended illness.
Peggy was born Jan. 11, 1942, to Bill and Mildred Brown of Marston, Missouri. She was born the third of six children. Peggy graduated from Bernie, Missouri, High School in 1959. After high school she attended the University of Missouri and then joined the U.S. Army. After her discharge from the Army, Peggy returned to Missouri and began employment as a bookkeeper at the Malden Ice Plant in Malden, Missouri. This is where she met her future husband, George Baker. Peggy and George were married Oct. 14, 1963. George preceded her in death, Oct. 22, 2001.
After the Malden Ice Plant, Peggy went on to work for the U.S. Government with Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Wappapello and U.S. Forest Service in Poplar Bluff.
Peggy enjoyed a lifetime of community service with the Girl Scouts, reading programs at Poplar Bluff’s Eugene Field school and many other organizations. Her leisure interests included travel, gardening, gatherings with friends and caring for her beloved pets.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Dennis and Bob Brown, and her sister, Susan Arnold.
Peggy is survived by her stepdaughter, Cheryl Francis (Miles) of Fort Worth, Texas; her son, Paul Baker of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; her brother, Les Brown (Barb) of Poplar Bluff; her sister, Anita Green (Mitch) of Parma, as well as numerous other family members and friends.
Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2022 at the Chalk Bluff Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri.
