PALMDALE, CALIF. -- Olaf Carlson Smith, 85, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2017, after battling cancer and declining health.
He was born Sept. 20, 1931, in St. Louis, Mo., to John W.E. and Olivia (Carlson) Smith.
The love of his life, MaryJo, passed away in November, 2013. They were married 59 years. Family was one of the major highlights they held close together as they traveled back forth every year between California and Missouri. Olaf was a machinist in the aircraft industry for over 35 years with Rocketdyne, Lockheed and retiring from General Electric.
He is survived by children, Carla (Hal) Mitchell, Leona (Richard) Taylor, Phillip (DeAnne) Smith; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers, George (aka Mark) (Wilma) Smith and James (Pat) Smith.
His son, Olaf (aka Oly) Smith, Jr. preceded him in passing in March, 2016.
A graveside service was held June 24, 2017 at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 2200 East Avenue S Palmdale, Calif.
