Mary E. Pennington, 81, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., entered the Gates of Heaven Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018 at Black River Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.
Mary, the daughter of the late Hildren and Ada Woodruff Johnson, was born Feb. 12, 1937 in Pontiac, Mich. She was an active member of Bluff First Assembly of God and was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mary was a member of the Butler County Historical Society. She enjoyed gardening and collecting antiques but her greatest passion was her God, her church and her family.
Mary married the love of her life, Earl L. Pennington on Nov. 6, 1955 in Hernando, Miss. He survives.
Other survivors include her son, Douglas E. (Mary) Pennington of Poplar Bluff; two grandchildren, Melissa (Scott) Dewerff of Poplar Bluff and Jennifer Pennington of Kansas City; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel with Pastor Dan Martin officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with Rev. Jim Schremp officiating.
