Mary Jo Barnett, daughter of the late Franklin Day Kimes and Effie Mae (Hoggard) Kimes was born Sept. 23, 1930 in Portageville, Missouri and departed this life at home Aug. 18, 2022 in Grandin, Missouri. She had attained the age of 91 years, 10 months and 25 days...

Mary Jo Barnett, daughter of the late Franklin Day Kimes and Effie Mae (Hoggard) Kimes was born Sept. 23, 1930 in Portageville, Missouri and departed this life at home Aug. 18, 2022 in Grandin, Missouri. She had attained the age of 91 years, 10 months and 25 days.

Mary Jo had resided in Grandin since 1963. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed cooking, reading, quilting and watching hummingbirds. Mary Jo was kind, loving and thoughtful.

On Sept. 13, 1953, she was united in marriage to Willard Eugene Barnett in Hernando, Mississippi. He preceded her in death Sept. 11, 2017.

Survivors include her seven children, Karen Johnston (Melvin) of Portageville, Missouri, Gene Barnett (Maria) of Cullman, Alabama, John Barnett (Reba) of Sikeston, Missouri, Mary Taylor (Dave) of Labadie, Missouri, Susie White (Mike) of Grandin, Robert Barnett (Connie) of Benton, Missouri and Linda Scott (Bill) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, Michael Johnston, Brian Johnston, Christine Wiggins, Brian Barnett, Jacob Taylor, Josh White, Jennifer Barnett, Cheryl Barnett, Delain Scott, Stacy Holper, Marca Cross, Brooke Cross and Mary Hannah Angotti; 24 great-grandchildren and three on the way; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, A.W. “Bun” Kimes, Jack Kimes, Franklin Kimes and Shirley Kimes Henson and many relatives and friends who mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mary Jo was preceded in death by one daughter, Beth Cross and one brother, Sherman Kimes.

A visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, in the McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore, Missouri, with the funeral services following at 1 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Walton Chapel Cemetery in Ellsinore.
