Marvin Edward Pierce, 81, of Poplar Bluff passed away December 22, 2017 at San Antonio Regional Hospital in Upland, CA.
Mr. Pierce was born Nov. 6, 1936 in Poplar Bluff. He had founded and helped build Northside Missionary Baptist Church and was ordained as a deacon; later he served as deacon in Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church and most recent, Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church. He was in the United States Army from 1954-1957 where he was on border patrol in occupied Berlin.
Mr. Pierce was a construction worker. He had also drove for Armour meat company and had worked for Missouri Dept. of Transportation. He enjoyed being with people, reading and studying the Bible, bird watching, jigsaw puzzles and his construction jobs. Most of all, Marvin's love was for his family. He always thought he was to be at home with his wife and children every night. He turned down many well paying jobs to do that.
On August 22, 1958 he married Alice (Livingston) Pierce in Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death July 2000.
Mr. Pierce is survived by children; Marilyn Wheatley and husband Dale, Melinda Robertson and husband Joe, grandchildren; Cole and Tara Wheatley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; Edward Pierce and Juanita Scoffield (Evans), sisters, Wilma Buchanan, Minnie Marvel, and granddaughter, Daneka Wheatley
There will be a visitation 7-9 p.m., Friday, January 5 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, January 6 burial to follow in Memorial Gardens.
