Marilyn Kay Jewell, 55, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 in Poplar Bluff.
Kay was born in Ironton, Mo. to Charles and Mary Duncan Sept. 17, 1962. She graduated from Clearwater High School in Piedmont, Mo. in 1980. She went on to earn a BS in BA from Southeast Missouri State University in 1984. In 1994, she earned her CPA license. She worked as a CPA for Coffman and Company and became a partner in the firm in 2001. She was involved in the United Cancer Assistance Network (UCAN), the Black River Baptist Church and the Cane Creek Stoddard Baptist Association.
She is survived by her husband, David Jewell of Poplar Bluff; three siblings, Sandy (Floyd) Young of Myrtle Beach, S. C,, Steve (Judy) Duncan of Jackson, Mo., and Kim Duncan (Dan Coffman) of Poplar Bluff; stepson, Kevin (Maurissa) Jewell; nephews, Chip Young, Paul Young, Scott (Sandy) Duncan; one niece, Jennifer (Michael) Gilbert; great-nephews, Michael Young, Sam Young, and Riley Duncan; great-nieces, Josephine Gilbert and Ava Duncan; step grandson, Wyatt Jewell; her father and mother-in-law, Glenn and Belvia Jewell of Poplar Bluff; her sister-in-law, Jennifer (James) Waggoner; and a host of long-time friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kay Jewell Endowment Fund at UCAN, 2620 N. Westwood Blvd. or Gideon's International.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Siteman Cancer Center, with a special mention of Dr. Benjamin Tan and his staff, Barnes Jewish Hospital, Preferred Hospice, Dr. Austin Tinsley and staff, and the multitudes of friends, family and strangers that have loved, supported, cared and prayed for Kay over the years of her illness. She used her shortened time on earth helping and strengthening others and the organizations she was involved in, all with great patience and humor. She absolutely loved the word of God and seeing him appear and work in peoples' lives.
Visitation will be held 12:30-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 at the First United Methodist Church at 500 North Main in Poplar Bluff.
A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following visitation at 2 p.m. in the church Sanctuary. Rev. Allen Clark of Black River Baptist Church will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
